How to blur a region

1

Record as usual

Capture your screen, window or tab. You'll blur afterwards, so you don't have to be careful during the take.

2

Add a Blur Region

In the editor, choose Blur Region and drag a box over the sensitive area — a password field, an API key, a customer name.

3

Set the time window (optional)

Each blur has start/end handles on the timeline, so you can hide something only while it's actually on screen, or for the whole clip.

4

Export

The blur is rendered into the MP4 during export. The hidden pixels are not in the final file — and nothing is uploaded to check or process it.

Why local processing matters here

Many online editors upload your raw video to their servers to render the blur. For a clip that contains a password, that's the opposite of safe. DemoZoom blurs and exports entirely in your browser with WebCodecs — you can confirm zero upload in DevTools → Network. Safe for credentials, NDAs and client work.

FAQ

How do I blur a password in a screen recording?

After recording, use the Blur Region tool: draw a box over the password (or any sensitive area), set the time window if needed, and export. The area is blurred directly in the output MP4, so the original pixels never appear in the exported video.

Is the blur permanent in the exported video?

Yes. The blur is rendered into the MP4 during export — it is not an overlay that can be peeled off. The hidden pixels are not present in the final file.

Does my recording get uploaded to check for sensitive data?

No. All blurring and export happen locally in your browser with WebCodecs. Your video never leaves your device, which is exactly why it's safe for credentials and NDA content.

Can I blur more than one area or a moving region?

Yes. You can add multiple blur regions, each with its own position and time window, so you can hide several fields or cover something only while it's on screen.
